It can be made from traditional wood, as well as from more technologically advanced materials: plastic or MDF. In this case, the skirting board is attached to the wall in various ways.

About MDF and wooden skirting boards

Planks from the array

Such a skirting board until the 90s had a very simple shape, mostly triangular. Now everything has changed, the profiles used are now elegant.

Usually, this is a straight profile with a rounded top, or a "boot". The modern baseboard is higher. It has a width of 10/12 cm, which is no longer surprising. A variety of tinting gives the appearance of valuable species to ordinary wood.

Under the "aged" wooden coverings, plinths are also made of solid wood, which are covered with oil.

With the advent of the technique of laying massive and parquet boards, specially processed whitewashed, brushed, with artificial wormholes, etc. are also produced.

It is important to remember that baseboards made of solid wood must be varnished or oiled before installation. After installation, only small details are finalized.

Types of fastening of skirting boards made of wood:

1. Fixing with screws. It is needed for wide slats with a height of 8/15 cm. The holes from the screws are closed with a heated wax pencil, the color of which coincides with the color of the slats.

2. Galvanized finishing nails have a small head with a rounded shape. When you sink them into the wood, a 2-millimeter hole remains. Such a mount, hidden by colored wax, is almost imperceptible. Using this method requires careful and precise work.

Veneered skirting board

It is made of pine and spruce wood. Either golden or aluminum foil, or natural veneer is pasted on it.

The variety of shades and colors and the presence of a large number of profiles, you can choose such a skirting board for any massive board or parquet. Width from 4 to 9.5 cm, length 2.4 / 2.5 m, thickness from 1.5 to 4 cm.

The base is connected by a needle type, thanks to which the slats have a very stable design. This greatly facilitates the installation of slats, they do not need to be forcibly attracted to the wall or floor.

Types of fixation of veneered baseboards:

Installation clips. They allow you to attach slats to the wall without damaging the surface. The set includes plastic dowels and screws. The baseboards have slots at the base through which they are put on the clip.
